A Historic Day For Titans CC
Walt H. Rambaransingh
On a frigid Florida day with temperatures in the low 40s with the wind chill, the Titans continued their 2013 40 over campaign with game #3 vs. West Indies CC at the Titan’s new home ground, Miramar Regional Park South. With 14 players available for the game including several players making their season debuts, the chosen 12-man squad had the majority of its first choice First XI players. The Titans won the toss and elected to bat.
Tiki made his season debut for the Titans by joining Chuck as the opening batting pair in the team’s first home game of the season. The first memorable moment of the game came in the 4th over when Chucky & Tiki ran for an incredible 7 runs on the third ball, a feat that would be rare, if it were repeated. Chucky lost his wicket 2 overs later scoring a total of 14 runs. Then Sunil aka "The Artist formerly known as Mad Max" came to the crease & began the domination. For the next 18 overs, Sunil & Tiki combined for a 160 run second wicket partnership. Tiki lost his wicket in the 25th over after scoring an efficient 85 runs in his contribution. Prabhu then came to the crease in his Titans league debut to score a quick-fire 25 runs in his third wicket partnership with Sunil that amounted to almost 50 runs. After Prabhu lost his wicket in the 31st over, Dalip eagerly came to the crease to join Sunil who had just scored his century. From overs 31 thru 39, Sunil & Dalip put in a 150 run fourth wicket partnership. Sunil lost his wicket in a kick-ball run out in the 40th over, scoring a ridiculous 185 runs. Tanmay came to the crease to replace Sunil in the final over to join Dalip for the final 5 balls. Dalip finished with a quick fire 82 not out. At the end of the innings, the Titans put up a massive score of 458 runs for 4 wickets after 40 overs, hitting 54 fours & 5 sixes.
Major contributions included Sunil’s 185 runs, Tiki’s 85 runs & Dalip’s 82 runs. The 458 total runs is the most scored by a Titans squad in its 5 years existence in 40 over competitions. The 458 runs will also likely be the highest scored by any team in SFCA league history in 40 over competitions. Sunil’s 185 runs is one of the largest, if not the largest, by an individual Titan player since the club’s inception. It took 15 overs to score the first 100 runs, 9 overs for the second 100 runs, 8 overs for the third 100 runs & 6 overs to score the fourth 100 runs. The Titans had a massive score to defend, and with its stingy bowling, West Indies CC had a mountain to climb.
Paul & Phani opened the bowling and each took a wicket in their first 2 overs. Tanmay & Deo along with Sammy were the first change spin bowlers and continued their miserly bowling. In the end, their chase of 458 runs was too great, and West Indies CC ended up being bowled out for 52 runs in 17.3 overs. Phani & Deo both ended up with 2 wickets each while Paul & Sammy took 1 wicket each. The Titans bowling attack only allowed 1 double digit individual run score. Titans win by 406 runs. Bowling details are below:
Paul- 3 overs, 1 maiden, 9 runs, 1 wicket, 3 wides.
Phani- 4 overs, 0 maidens, 19 runs, 2 wickets, 5 wides.
Tanmay- 3 overs, 1 maidens, 3 runs, 0 wickets, 0 wides.
Deo- 4.2 overs, 0 maiden, 10 runs, 2 wickets, 0 wides.
Sammy- 3 overs, 0 maiden, 10 runs, 1 wickets, 4 wides.
Regardless of the competition, it was a historic day for Titans CC that scored its highest total score (458 runs) ever in a 40 over competition and its highest ever score by an individual player with Sunil’s hefty contribution of 185 runs. The day was also highlighted with Chucky & Tiki running 7 runs off 1 ball. With a display of confident batting & bowling, the Titans hope to continue the success of the 2013 team campaign as they proceed into game 4 of the league season.
