A Skipper’s Birthday

Walt H. Rambaransingh | Date 04/13/14

On a cloudy day, the Titans continued their 2014 40 over campaign with a home game vs Ambassador SC. Game 9 of the 2014 40 over campaign would be played at Miramar Regional Park. Ambassador SC won the toss and elected to bat first.

Krishna & Walt opened the bowling. Walt was taken off after the 6th over as his 3rd over was a bit expensive. Errol replaced Walt in the 8th over and Tanmay replaced Krishna in the 11th over. It would be Tanmay’s first bowling session of the season. Tanmay took the first wicket in the 3rd ball of his first over after Chucky took a “tasty” over-the-shoulder catch at cover-point. Errol removed the other opening batsman in the following over, with Praveen taking a “delicious” high catch in the swirling wind at short fine-leg (chasing from square leg) after calling Tiki off. Tanmay took another 3 wickets in his spell via an LBW and catches by Errol & Chucky (again). There were 3 bowled out wickets on the day (Krishna, Atul & Walt), the sweetest one being a full toss by Atul that Krishna dubbed the “magic ball” before it was even bowled. The innings ended with a catch by Dalip at long-on off Walt’s bowling. Bowling highlights included Tanmay’s 4-wicket haul in his first bowling action of the year. Fielding highlights included 2 over-the-shoulder catches by Chucky & Praveen. At the end of the innings, Ambassador SC scored 152 runs all out in 33.3 overs. Titans CC Bowling details of the day are below:

Krishna – 8 overs, 1 maiden, 28 runs, 1 wicket, 7 wides.
Walt- 5.3 overs, 0 maidens, 31 runs, 2 wickets, 3 wides.
Errol- 8 overs, 1 maiden, 20 runs, 2 wickets, 3 wides.
Tanmay- 8 overs, 0 maidens, 35 runs, 4 wickets, 17 wides.
Rakesh - 3 overs, 0 maidens, 29 runs, 0 wickets, 10 wides.
Atul - 1 over, 0 maidens, 9 runs, 1 wicket, 0 wides.

Skipper Tiki & Dalip opened the batting. After not facing a ball in the 1st over, Masterblaster Dalip went on a rampage during the next 5 overs scoring 43 runs (two 6s & five 4s), including a 6 that may still actually be in the air. But he gave his wicket away in the 7th over after charging down the crease and getting stumped. Atul then entered the game and continued to play the role that was intended for him. Skipper Tiki lost his wicket 2 overs later and Krishna replaced him. Atul & Krishna formed a 36 run partnership that ended when Krishna attempted to hit over long-on & got caught. Chucky replaced Krishna. Atul & Chucky formed a 30 run partnership that ended with 9 runs needed for victory when Atul attempted to hit over cover & got caught. Brandon replaced Atul. He & Chucky scored the remaining necessary runs. Titans CC chased down the 153 runs in 23.3 overs. Batting highlights included Dalip’s 43 runs, Atul’s 31 runs and Krishna’s 25 runs. Titans CC win the game by 6 wickets.

After the win, the Titans CC record stands at 7 wins & 2 losses going into the Easter break, with 3 regular season 40 over games remaining. The main critique of the day was sloppy fielding that included several wides that went for boundaries due to an unpredictable bowling pitch. Bowling highlights included a 4 wicket haul for Tanmay in his first bowling action of the 2014 season. Fielding highlights included 2 sensational catches by Praveen & Chucky. Batting highlights included Dalip’s 43 runs (although he knows that he should have scored much more) and Atul’s 31 runs at 1-down to balance the batting attack. Progression continues to be the theme for this version of the Titans squad. Team members continue to work hard & support their teammates as more challenges & hurdles lay ahead toward achieving the ultimate team goal. At the end of the day, it was a good birthday for the team’s skipper!
