Amat Victoria Curam

On a breezy & overcast late April day, the Palm Beach Titans continued their 2017 South Florida Premiere League 40 over campaign. Game 8 of the 2017 SFPL 40 over regular season would be played against Eagles CC. Eagles CC won the toss and elected to bowl first after a delayed start.

Chucky & Dalip opened the batting. The opening batsmen established 55 run partnership prior to Dalip getting caught out after a quick-fire 36 runs. Praveen replaced Dalip at the batting crease but lost his wicket via an LBW decision 8 runs later. Amir then entered the match but was unfortunately bowled out for a golden duck on his first faced bowling delivery. The middle order continued to collapse with Nathan & Skipper Andre only scoring 10 & 9 runs respectively before losing their wickets. Anglin came in to bat at #7 and did his best to stabilize the team’s batting by scoring a balanced 42 runs. However, the lower order did very little to help him stay at the crease. At 30.2 overs, the Palm Beach Titans were bowled out for 171 runs in the first innings. Batting highlights included Chucky’s 45 runs, Anglin’s 42 runs and Dalip’s 36 runs. The Palm Beach Titans would have to defend 171 runs in the 2nd innings.

Anglin & Krishna opened the bowling. The opening 5 overs were very expensive at 9 runs per over due to the fielding unit missing 2 players. The first 10 overs leaked 78 runs at the expense of only 1 wicket. The first change bowlers were Andre & Nathan and both did their best to contain the batsmen and restrict as many runs as possible defending the low total. Atif came in as the 2nd change bowler and in normal “Aati” style took a wicket on his very first bowled ball. The opponent’s top order batting lineup was very effective scoring many boundaries. The bowlers brought it back a bit in overs 11 thru 29 but it was not enough although 6 additional wickets were taken in that same timeframe. At the 20 over break, the opponent only needed 38 runs for victory. The chase came to an end after 28.3 overs. Fielding highlights included 2 wicketkeeper catches by Chuck and a scorching catch by Praveen. Bowling highlights included a 3 wicket haul by Anglin along with a 2 wicket haul by Atif. The Palm Beach Titans lose by 3 wickets. The team’s bowling details for the match are below:

Anglin – 8 overs, 0 maidens, 55 runs, 3 wickets.
Krishna – 6 overs, 0 maidens, 32 runs, 1 wicket.
Andre - 3 overs, 0 maidens, 20 runs, 0 wickets.
Nathan- 5 overs 1 maiden, 30 runs, 1 wicket.
Atif– 6.3 overs, 1 maiden, 34 runs, 2 wickets.

The Palm Beach Titans continued their 2017 South Florida Premiere League 40 over season with a numbing loss to Eagles. Batting highlights included Chucky’s 45 runs, Anglin’s 42 runs and Dalip’s 36 runs. Fielding highlights included 2 wicketkeeper catches by Chuck and a scorching catch by Praveen. Bowling highlights included a 3 wicket haul by Anglin along with a 2 wicket haul by Atif. The motto for the team is “Amat Victoria Curam” which translated from Latin to English is “Victory Loves Preparation”. This loss is a direct result of a basic lack of preparation prior to and during the game. It remains as a lesson that preparation is a necessary component to achieve victory. The squad looks to learn from this loss by re-emphasizing the importance of the team’s motto. With one game left in the 40 over regular season, the team strives to exemplify “Amat Victoria Curam” in the final regular season game and post season play.
