Ambassador Game Ends In A Spectator Special - TIE.
Paul Dharmendra Ramkissoon
On a day that Titans needed a solitary victory to claim a playoff spot...they got an unexpected tie. One more tie or win will earn a playoff spot for Titans, but their goal of homefield advantage in the semi-finals has taken a massive hit.
The game started out ordinary enough as Titans elected to field first and proceeded to turn in an effort unbecoming of a top team. Bad bowling somehow elicited countless missed chances and in the end, an Ambassador batting card that should have been rolled out for 120-130 managed 187.
The chase seemed to be on target with Chuck and Dalip yet again getting the team off to a solid start of 73/0 after 15 overs, but then the loss of three quick wickets prompted consolidation. The game tightened up with the regular loss of wickets and in the end, the extra depth of two good bats in Umair and DK paid off as the 9th wicket pair managed to get two off the last ball to ensure a tie.
It was exciting for the spectators, but both teams left with a sense of missed opportunity as neither made progress towards their playoff goals. In the end, I'm sure both teams are hopeful of a playoff spot and perhaps even an unlikely rematch in the playoffs.
Titans now stand at 28 points, 3rd in the standings, with a 5-1-1 record and will need to win out and hope for a helpful result or two in the other games around the league to still have a shot at homefield in the semis.
Next up is Oswald Park II, the top ranked team in the zone...they are undefeated and this should make for a spicy contest.
