Double Trouble

Walt H. Rambaransingh | Date 03/20/17

On a crisp & splendid late March day near Lake Okeechobee, the Palm Beach Titans continued their 2017 South Florida Premiere League 40 over campaign. Game 6 of the 2017 SFPL 40 over regular season would be played against a familiar & favorite rival, Southshore CC. Southshore CC won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Chucky & Tiki opened the batting. After a 5 over, 25 run opening partnership, Chucky lost his wicket in the 6th over after scoring 18 runs. Praveen replaced Chucky at the batting crease and embarked on a 147 run partnership with Tiki that lasted about 20 overs. Both Tiki and Praveen batted efficiently and effectively during their partnership. Unfortunately, Tiki lost his wicket in the 26th over after scoring a stabilizing 65 runs. Andre replaced Tiki in the middle and established a second important partnership with Praveen that lasted over 7 overs and garnered 59 runs. It is during that partnership with Andre that Praveen completed scoring the first century for the Titans in 2017. Praveen lost his wicket in the 33rd over via a run-out after scoring 108 runs in 77 balls, hitting eleven 4s and four 6s. So with 7 overs to go in the first innings, the Palm Beach Titans had 231 runs on the scorecard with only 3 wickets lost. By the end of the 40 overs, the squad had scored 264 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Batting highlights included Praveen’s century (108 runs with an uber-healthy strike rate of 140) and Tiki’s 65 runs along with the partnerships between Tiki & Praveen (147 runs) and Praveen & Andre (59 runs). With 264 runs set to defend, the Palm Beach Titans felt somewhat comfortable in the ability of their bowling contingent to successfully defend the runs on the scorecard & achieve victory.

Krishna & Nagarjun opened the bowling. Nagarjun struck first blood by removing the on-strike opening batsman with the 4th legal delivery of his very first over. However, the first 15 overs was not efficient as a bowling contingent even with the first change bowlers of Andre and Anglin. At the 15 over break, the opposition had 79 runs on the scorecard with only 1 wicket lost. Atif began his spell, as a 2nd change bowler, just prior to that break but his breakthrough came in his 3rd bowled over (19th bowled overall for the team). This is when Atif began what can only be described as “selfish exaggeration” or “greedy extravagance”. Over the course of his 8 over spell between the 15th and 29th overs, Atif took a total of 6 wickets, only allowing 28 runs. The remainder of the bowling contingent aided in the restriction of runs for the opposition. At the end of the 40 overs for the 2nd innings, the opposition scored a total of 185 runs with 8 wickets lost. The Palm Beach Titans win by 79 runs. Fielding highlights included catches by Nagarjun, Sachith & wicketkeeper Tiki Singh. Bowling highlights obviously include the 6 wicket haul by Atif. Palm Beach Titans successfully defend their run chase. Palm Beach Titans CC Bowling details of the day are below:

The Palm Beach Titans continued their 2017 South Florida Premiere League 40 over season with a steadfast victory over Southshore CC. Batting highlights included Praveen’s century (108 runs) and Tiki’s 65 runs along with the partnerships between Tiki & Praveen (147 runs) and Praveen & Andre (59 runs). Fielding highlights included catches by Nagarjun, Sachith & wicketkeeper Tiki Singh. Bowling highlights include the 6 wicket haul by Atif. Praveen’s century batting stand along with Atif’s 6-wicket haul continue to demonstrate the evolution of this team since the beginning of the campaign. The squad’s goals to become more proficient in the bowling contingent along with the goal for the batting contingent to establish more substantial partnerships in the top order took a good step forward this game with better bowling and batting as a team overall. With 3 games remaining in the season’s 9 game regular season, the Palm Beach Titans CC have 4 wins and 2 losses. The squad looks to continue their improvement in all 3 primary facets as they strive to qualify for post season play with a high seeding.
