Fraser's First

Walt H. Rambaransingh | Date 08/07/16

On a sultry & steamy day, the Titans began their 2016 South Florida Premiere League 20 over campaign after a long off season. Game 1 of the 2016 SFPL 20 over regular season would be played against Challengers CC at Tradewinds Park. Team elections were held in the off-season & this game would feature the debut of the new skipper, Andre Fraser. Challengers CC won the toss and elected to bat first.

Tanmay & Sanjay opened the bowling. The team welcomed Tanmay back to the squad after a year plus hiatus which was spent welcoming his first child to the extended Titans family. He bowled his spell of miserly overs on the trot. Sanjay’s spell of 3 overs was expensive but he did pick up 2 important wickets including that of the one opposing danger batsman that scored 50+% of their total runs. Those 2 wickets included a solid catch by Nathan at backward point and a crucial “caught & bowled” by Sanjay. Krish & Nate were the first change bowlers. Nate was expensive in the only over he bowled and Krish picked up a wicket in his miserly 2 over spell. Errol & Walt were the second change bowlers & made quick work of the remaining wickets. Errol took 2 wickets in his first over while Walt took the scalp of the last batsman via a stumping by Tiki. Nathan & Tiki also connected on a clinical run-out in the 12th over. Bowling highlights included the return of Tanmay along with miserly bowling spells from Krishna & Errol. At the end of the 1st innings, Challengers CC scored 106 runs all out in 13.1 overs. Titans CC Bowling details of the day are below:

Tanmay – 4 overs, 0 maidens, 22 runs, 0 wickets.
Sanjay- 3 overs, 0 maidens, 42 runs, 2 wickets.
Krishna- 2 overs, 0 maidens, 8 runs, 1 wicket.
Nathan- 1 over, 0 maidens, 18 runs, 0 wickets.
Errol - 2 overs, 0 maidens, 9 runs, 2 wickets.
Walt – 1.1 overs, 0 maidens, 7 runs, 1 wicket.

Chucky & Tiki opened the batting for the run chase. Chucky lost his wicket on the 3rd ball of the first over via a questionable LBW decision. Praveen then joined Tiki at the crease and began a century long partnership that won the game for the Titans. Tiki scored 40 runs not out with 5 fours and one glorious 6. Praveen scored an unbeaten 52 runs not out with 6 fours & 2 hefty sixes. The chase of 107 came to an end after 13.1 overs with a glorious 4 from Praveen that earned him his half century & a 108 run partnership by the #2 & #3 batsmen. Titans CC chased down the necessary 107 runs in 13.1 overs with Praveen scoring 52 runs and Tiki scoring 40 runs. Titans CC win by 9 wickets.

After the first game of their South Florida Premiere League 20 over campaign, the Titans were quite content with the win but took it with a grain of salt that larger challenges lay ahead in the season. Bowling highlights included miserly bowling from Krishna, Errol & Tanmay while fielding highlights included a run-out by Nathan/Tiki and 2 solid catches by Nathan & Sanjay. Of course, Tiki & Praveen were the batting highlights of the game with their 108 run partnership that included an unbeaten 52 from Praveen. Critiques on the day include a few expensive overs that can be rectified via more practice & match experience. Congrats to Andre who won his first game as the Titans skipper. With many games left in this new tournament, the team looks forward to continued improvement & squad evolution under the new captain.
