Meet Head Coach - Max Diah!
Staff | Date 10/30/20
Maxmilian S. Diah was born and raised in the countryside on the beautiful island of Jamaica. He got his official start of playing cricket at the age of 11 with his high school cricket team. In Jamaica he played up to the highest level and took part in numerous senior cup tournaments. It’s an understatement to say that he dominated the field as a wicketkeeper and top order batsman. After playing for 20+ years, he started umpiring in 1978. He became a certified level 1 & 2 west indies umpire trainer and moved to Florida some years later. In fact, he was 1 of 2 West Indies umpires in South Florida at the time who was qualified to umpire at international games. He currently holds the record for successfully training 18 west indies umpire candidates who all achieved 100% pass on the exam. One of his students went on to be an ICC umpire. It has always been a dream of his to play a role in developing the younger generation into topclass umpires and he spends some of his time scouting talented umpires and players.
Max and his team after winning the ALCAN Henriques Cup in 1974
As President of the Umpire’s Association, Max has always appreciated the raw talent and respect the members of the Palm Beach titans have when they play games. Max explained to us in a recent interview that he thinks the Palm Beach Titans could become the best team in South Florida and he wants to help restore them back to glory like the old days. He says that the talent, love for the game and willingness to improve their skills are all there so he’s very enthusiastic to see the team get better. In his role as Head Coach, his goal is to work with leadership on taking charge and ensuring the team learns how to work seamlessly together with their strengths and weaknesses. He’s happy to see everyone making the effort to show up to practice and listening to his advice.
It’s an honor to have Coach Diah impart his wisdom and knowledge on the team!
