Old School Titans
Walt H. Rambaransingh | Date 08/18/14
On an overcast & muggy afternoon, the Titans continued their 2014 20 over campaign with a home game vs Ambassador SC. Game 2 of the 2014 20 over campaign would be played at Miramar Regional Park. Titans CC won the toss and elected to bat first.
Chucky & Dalip opened the batting. Chucky lost his wicket in the 2nd over edging the ball back to the wicketkeeper. After scoring only 4 runs and losing 1 wicket in the first 3 overs, the rain started to fall. After a break for the rain shower and subsequent time for the field to dry a bit, the umpires reduced the game to 15 overs a side. Dalip & Aditya then went back to the crease. Both lost their wickets soon after and the Titans were in trouble after 5 overs, only scoring 14 runs and already lost 3 wickets. Skipper Tiki & Praveen followed with a solid quick partnership that ended abruptly after Praveen suffered an abdominal strain that forced him to retire hurt. Paul & Avinash followed with both scoring ducks. Tanmay then joined Tiki at the crease and had a nice ending partnership with Tiki. Tanmay scored a beautiful 4 to cow corner with the last ball of the inning. At the end of 15 overs, the Titans scored 71 runs with a loss of 5 wickets. The only batting highlight was skipper Tiki who contributed 27 runs (not out) and was the only batsman with an above 100 strike rate. The opposition needed to score 72 runs in 15 overs to win.
Walt & Paul opened the bowling. Walt started horribly, allowing 11 runs in his first over, including 2 boundaries. Paul was solid and effective in his 3 over spell allowing only 11 runs and taking 3 wickets. Tanmay and new member Artma were the first change bowlers and had equally efficient spells. Tanmay allowed only 10 runs in his 3 overs taking 1 wicket. In Artma’s first bowling detail for the Titans, he allowed only 3 runs in his 3 overs with a solid performance. Another effective Titans bowler was discovered. Akash rounded out the bowling contingent with a 3 over ending spell that allowed only 9 runs and taking 1 wicket. Titans CC restrict the opposition to 50 runs in the 15 overs of the second inning. Titans CC win by 21 runs. One of the most jubilant moments of the game occurred in the 5th over when Aditya fielded a ball at Point and as he attempted to throw the ball to the keeper, changed his motion mid-flight as his teammates yelled out “Bowler” & pegged the off-strike stumps to run out the opening danger batsman, with many of his teamates running & cheering at him afterwards. Titans CC Bowling details of the day are below:
Walt – 3 overs, 0 maidens, 16 runs, 1 wicket, 3 wides.
Paul- 3 overs, 0 maidens, 11 runs, 3 wickets, 1 wide.
Tanmay- 3 overs, 0 maidens, 10 runs, 1 wicket, 1 wide.
Artma- 3 overs, 1 maidens, 3 runs, 0 wickets, 0 wides.
Akash - 3 overs, 0 maidens, 9 runs, 1 wicket, 1 wide.
The result of Game 2 of the 20 over season was an old school Titans win, defending a low total with our efficient & effective bowling with new players. The skipper pointed out, at the end of the game, that we allowed 42 dot balls out of 90 total balls in our batting innings which is not satisfactory, especially for a 20 over game. The team’s bowling contingent, as a whole was very efficient and was the reason that the club won its first game of the 2014 20 over season. The only batting highlight was skipper Tiki with his 27 runs and 117 strike rate. The bowling highlights included Artma’s first bowling spell for the Titans allowing only 3 runs in 3 overs. The fielding contingent was solid, as a whole, and featured a beautiful run-out by Aditya and a diving catch by wicketkeeper Tiki down the middle of the pitch with Tanmay & Akash attempting to call him off (but like the skipper later referenced, "Tiki don't play that!"). The squad looks to continue to improve as the 20 over season progresses.
