Thirties Times Three.

Walt H. Rambaransingh | Date 09/18/16

On a blistering, hot September day, the Titans continued their 2016 South Florida Premiere League 20 over campaign. Game 5 of the 2016 SFPL 20 over regular season would be played against the U.S. Cricket Academy at MAQ ground. The team looked to continue this T20 season after the previous day’s game (Game 4 of the SFPL season) was abandoned due to a wet outfield. U.S. Cricket Academy won the toss and elected to bat first.

Tanmay & Krishna opened the bowling. The first wicket of the opposition fell 2 balls into Tanmay’s 2nd over with a scintillating catch by Naga sprinting in from long on. The second wicket of the opposition’s other opening batsman fell in Tanmay’s 4th over with another solid catch by Naga sprinting in from long on again. Krishna bowled 2 very efficient overs (allowing only 4 runs) before the first change bowlers of Sanjay & Andre slotted in to do work. Sanjay bowled an efficient first 2 overs while Andre struggled in his first over bowling a few too many wides but had a good comeback 2nd over taking 1 wicket & allowing only 1 run. Nathan came in as the 5th bowler & provided some effective back end bowling support with Walt & Bharat rounding out the bowling with 1 over each. Bowling highlights included a 2 wicket haul from Tanmay. Fielding highlights included 2 catches by Naga running in from long on to give Tanmay his 2 wickets along with Tiki who looked like his old wicket keeping self (since his elbow injury) by doing his best to curb the high number of wides bowled in the innings. At the end of the innings, U.S. Cricket Academy scored 157 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. Titans CC Bowling details of the day are below:

Tanmay – 4 overs, 0 maidens, 14 runs, 2 wickets.
Krishna - 3 overs, 0 maidens, 20 runs, 0 wickets.
Sanjay- 4 overs, 0 maidens, 35 runs, 0 wickets.
Andre- 4 overs 0 maidens, 35 runs, 1 wicket.

Prateek & Nathan opened the batting. The Titan’s opening partnership lasted for 55 runs & 7 overs with Tiki embracing the role of rotating the strike & Nate embracing the role of masterblaster. Nate scored 32 runs (25 balls faced) in his partnership with Tiki including 2 fours & 2 sixes (one of which may still be in the stratosphere). Praveen replaced Nate at the crease after he lost his wicket in the 7th over via LBW. Praveen continued his effective batting scoring 33 runs in 28 balls. Atul came in the 9th over as a very tired Tiki was bowled after effectively rotating the strike. Atul took over Tiki’s role while Praveen lost his wicket in the 12th over. Andre confidently replaced Praveen at the crease scoring 2 sixes in his first 3 balls faced. The remaining necessary runs were scored by Naga, Bharat & Krishna. Andre scored 37 runs including 5 sixes (one which ended the run chase) and only facing 16 balls, not out. Titans CC win by 4 wickets, chasing down the required runs in 18.5 overs. Batting highlights included a threesome of players scoring 30+ runs.

The Titans’ 5th game of their South Florida Premiere League 20 over campaign displayed confident batting, inefficient bowling (too many wides) & solid fielding. Bowling highlights included a 2 wicket haul from Tanmay. Fielding highlights include 2 catches by Naga running in from long on along with some run-saving wicket keeping from Tiki. Batting highlights include Nathan, Praveen & Andre scoring in the 30s. Critiques included a dropped catch from Atul and the 28 wides bowled. After 5 games into the 2016 SFPL season, the Titans have 4 wins & 1 abandoned game due to weather. Go Titans!
