Titans 2012 Season Begin In Paradise
Walt H. Rambaransingh | Date 10/06/12
On an eagerly awaited Sunday in June, Titans CC began their 2012 campaign in the 20/20 season against Paradise SC at Girl Scout Friendship Park. The home team won the toss & chose to bat, putting the Titans to bowl in the first innings.
DK & Atif opened the bowling for the first time as an opening pair for Titans. After bowling a wide as the first ball of the game, DK’s first legal delivery claimed the stumps of opening batsman, S. Plummer, with a beautiful delivery. Atif set the theme for stingy bowling with a spell of 4 overs allowing only 12 runs and claiming 2 wickets. Krishna C. was brought in as first change bowler after DK bowled 2 overs. Krishna continued the efficient bowling with a spell of 4 overs for 12 runs and 1 wicket including a maiden over. At the end of 9 overs, Paradise SC had a total of 33 runs with 4 wickets lost. Walt was brought in as the 2nd first change bowler after Atif bowled his spell. With the support of his teammates during his first official First XI league bowling detail, Walt got thru his spell of 4 overs allowing 24 runs and claiming 2 wickets including a lightning quick stumping of E. Tucker by skipper/ wicket keeper, Tiki. Rakesh then came in as the 1st second change bowler and continued the stingy bowling with a spell of 4 overs for 9 runs & 1 wicket including a maiden over. Then, Tanmay, who was originally scheduled to be a first change bowler, was sent to bowl the 18th & 20th overs claiming 3 wickets, allowing 6 runs in just 1.5 overs. At the end of the 1st innings, Titans had bowled out Paradise SC for 76 runs in 19.5 overs.
Titans began their chase knowing the eccentricities of the pitch after witnessing the opposition batting. As usual, Chucky & Dalip opened the batting for the club and settled in batting thru the powerplay 6th over. Chucky kept on rotating the strike to Dalip who looked to be the power hitter of the squad on the day. Chucky lost his wicket in the 6th over after being caught out after earning 10 runs. Dalip’s batting spell included 3 fours and a sensational flat 6 over Long On resulting in a total of 33 runs after 10 overs. The opening batsmen left the field with 54 runs earned after 10 overs, leaving the rest of the line-up to score the remaining 23 runs. Krishna C. came in the 6th over after Chucky got out and balanced the remaining run chase. Umair came in after Dalip lost his wicket and scored 2 runs before being bowled after facing 4 balls. Skipper Tiki then came in to bat with the goal to see the run chase thru. Krishna & Tiki lasted 4 overs together getting the chase to within 3 runs. Both lost their wickets but Akhil V. & Tanmay strutted in to bring the victory home for the Titans with almost 2 overs remaining.
Titans earn a victory for the first game of the 2012 20/20 season. After post game discussion, the team has many lessons to learn for the upcoming games after our first game performance. The bowling attack continues to be a strength for the Titans Cricket Club as this game’s stats display 87 dot balls bowled within 120 legal deliveries including the 10 wickets resulting in 72.5% of all deliveries being dot balls. The “new-look” Titans provide a sense of the traditional squad spirit with a deviated formula for success. Let’s get it, Titans! Ra-ka-ka…….ala Rabiosa….
