Titans Bats Deliver The Goods.
Paul Dharmendra Ramkissoon
Inserted to bat, Titans batsmen responded strongly in Game 2 of the T20 season. Roy Weeks (29), Chuck Kongahakotuwage (40), Dalip Madnani (16) and Rheeshie Pooran (27 retired out) provided just the kind of top order knock that laid the platform for success. Prateek Singh would also later add the other significant contribution of 19 as the team posted 158/7. Chuck's knock was of special memorable flair and Rheeshie should also be commended for his retiring out at the bequest of the skipper...consequential or inconsequential.
In reply to the total, Port Saint Lucie was strangled early as the new ball pair of skipper Paul (3 overs 1 maiden 6 runs 0 wickets) and Danny (4 overs 0 maiden 22 runs 1 wicket) conceded only 20 runs off the 6 over powerplay. Deo (4 overs 0 maiden 29 runs 1 wicket) and Tanmay (4 overs 0 maiden 20 runs 2 wickets) provided some variety to the attack while Atif (2 overs 0 maiden 22 runs 0 wickets) continued his poor form for the season. The introduction of Weeks (3 overs 1 maiden 13 runs 4 wickets)with his accurate wicket taking medium pace was the nail in the coffin as PSLCC fell 27 runs short.
The fielding had some blemishes from the usual suspects, but all in all that department is definitely on the rise as evidenced in Weeks's spectacular boundary fielding in two matches on the trot, Danny's safe hands in the deep and Chuck's acrobatic fielding...including a near impossible take at covers that was a rocket taken with his left hand diving to his left and just a millimeter off the ground. That was quite possibly the best catch for Titans in 2010.
Win number two felt good, but it left some questions to be answered. With Prateek out the next two games who is going to pick up the gloves? Also, with the expulsion of Alan on the horizon, which of the A team youth/ developmental players will make the cut and join the FIRST XI in the weeks to come?
All in all a good day in the middle for what is shaping up to be one of the better Titans all-round teams to take the field.
Next week India United comes calling at the home ground John Prince Park. They will no doubt have not so distant memories of the loss to Titans in the 40 overs recently. That game is the must see game of the season...so buy your free tickets today and reserve your favorite spot on the bleacher or under a shady tree.
GO TITANS!
