Titans CC Test Match 2012 Day 1 & 2 Recap

Walt H. Rambaransingh

| Date 12/12/12

The resurgence of the Titan’s 3 day intrasquad test match was highly anticipated by all teammates after a 2 year absence.  The S squad were captained by 2013 incoming skipper Paul and consisted of a veteran squad.  The V squad were captained by 2013 incoming vice-captain Chucky & consisted of a younger, youth oriented squad.  The V squad won the toss and chose to put the S squad to bat.

Tiki & Bunny opened the batting for the S squad.  The first wicket was lost in the 18th over with 30 runs on the board when Tiki got caught behind on Kenny’s 1st ball of his 1st over.  Batting highlights included 37 runs from Bunny & 21 runs from Deo.  The rest of the S squad showed little patience in their 1st batting innings as they were all bowled out for 138 runs in 65.2 overs.  Bowling highlights from the V squad included Atul Iyer’s 4 wickets for 44 runs in 15 overs & Walt’s 3 wickets for 5 runs in 5.2 overs.

Atul & Chucky opened the batting for the V squad.  Chucky lost his wicket in the 15th over & Gowtham quickly lost his wicket following Chucky after succumbing to intense trash talking from the opposing team by being caught at silly point after only scoring 1 run.  Batting highlights included 47 runs from Atul Thomas, 36 runs (not out) from Atul Iyer & a quick 26 runs from Santosh.  The lower order batting of Santosh & Atul Iyer  at 7 & 8 provided a valuable 50 run partnership.  The V squad were bowled out for 203 runs in 84.4 overs & thus earned a lead of 65 runs.  Bowling highlights for the S squad included Cyril’s 4 wickets for 22 runs in 9 overs.

Umair & Bunny opened the batting for the S squad’s 2nd innings but quickly lost their wickets.  By the 13th over, the S squad had lost 3 wickets with only 19 runs on the board, with the third victim being Rheesie.  Tanmay & Paul stabilized the batting for the remainder of Day 2.  At the end of Day 2, the S squad was 3 wickets down with 55 runs on the board after 37 overs & thus were 10 runs behind.  Bowling highlights from the V squad’s 2nd bowling innings included Santosh’s 2 quick wickets for 10 runs in 7 overs.

So after 187 overs completed over a 2 day period, the Titans saw little production from the veteran players on both squads while the youth’s persistence, practice & patience paid off.  Both Atul Thomas & Atul Iyer were the highlight players over the first 2 days of the test match.  With the S squad still trailing by 10 runs with 83 overs to go on the upcoming day 3 and only 7 wickets in hand means all results remain possible.
