Titans Outplayed By India United.
Paul Dharmendra Ramkissoon | Date 01/11/10
In a playoff consequential encounter of two undefeated teams, Titans failed to prevail. Winning the toss and inserting the opposition seemed the right move at first as skipper Paul (wicket on the first ball of the match...finished 4-0-26-2 )and new ball partner Danny (4-0-15-0) had IU limping along at 26/2 at the end of the 6 over powerplay. However that successful start was short lived as S. Desai who benefited from a couple drops produced a gem of an innings to make 100 retired and aided by a cameo of 28 of 6 balls by N. Jamula later...IU managed a mammoth total 170. Clearly the rest of the Titans bowling attack needed to buck up...but with chinaman bowler Deo out with injury, the rest of the bowlers struggled to gain any momentum.
Titans looked up to the task in reply as the chase was well and truly on with Weeks (26) and Chuck (34) taking the score to 50/0 off the 6 over powerplay. However, Weeks pulled up with a elbow joint injury and had to retire and from there IU siezed the momentum and allowed Titans a meagre reply of 118/8 at the end of the 20 overs.
The experienced T20 IU side prevailed on the day, but they were signs that Titans might challenge them in future. The win by India all but secured their berth in the Finals even though two games are left to play. Even with a 2-0 run from here the best Titans can manage is a 4-1 season and with IU holding the head to head tiebreaker and a 60+ run differential...it seems like the rest of the season will be played for pride.
This week Titans will face a rebuilding Southshore team in another installment of the Lake Okeechobee Cup. With several key players out with injuries and for Diwali...it will undoubtedly be a test of our bench strenght. Come on out to John Prince Park this Sunday at 1PM to see Titans vs. Southshore.
