Titans Vs Port Saint Lucie 2012 20/20 Game 2
Walt H. Rambaransingh
On a hot & humid Father’s Day, Titans CC took on a Port St. Lucie squad as the second game of the 20/20 league season. St. Lucie won the toss and elected to put the Titans in to bat.
Opening batsman Chucky got out for 6 total runs chasing a wide ball after hitting a beautiful straight 4 with the first official duty of the Bradbury bat that his teammates gave him for his accomplishments last season. Krishna C. & Umair followed but did not provide much run support as top order batsmen as their wickets were quickly lost. Dalip then lost his wicket after back to back 4’s by getting caught at the boundary at long on & contributed 13 runs. Skipper Tiki then came to the crease and provided the best Titans batting of the day by contributing a team high 46 runs, including three 4s & one 6. The remaining batsmen provided few runs in support with unfortunate run outs of Akhil & Atif. After the 1st innings, Titans took the field to defend 86 runs.
Atif opened the bowling and took the first wicket by bowling C. Jones on the 5th ball of the 1st over. Tanmay was the second opening bowler & finished with 0 wickets for 18 runs in 3 overs. Krishna & Deo both took 3 wickets each in their 4 over spells. Tiki’s stumping on Deo’s last ball was especially sweet as the competition between the batsman & bowler was “talkative”. Cyril took 2 wickets for 10 runs but bowled a 2nd no ball in his 4th over and was thus relieved. In the end, too many wides and the run defense was too great for the Titans to overcome, even with the support of Paul, Paveena & Uvin on the sidelines. The fielding highlights included the 3 wickets taken by Krishna & Deo along with the 2 stumpings & 2 WK catches by Tiki. PSLCC win with 7 balls to go.
At the end of the day, there were many lessons to learn from the Titan’s first loss of the 20 over season. The upcoming game against Southshore at Turtle Run Park will decide where the Titans will end up in the playoff structure and if they learn from their mistakes.
